“Ms. G of the Massachusetts Audubon Society, Inc. shall be the official groundhog of the commonwealth and shall be utilized as a way to educate elementary school children on the importance of meteorology.”
“Volleyball shall be the official recreational and team sport of the commonwealth.”
This section doesn't print a penalty of its own. Other parts of the General Laws of Massachusetts may set one; we haven't looked them up, so we don't state one here.
“[Text of section added by 2014, 206. See also, Section 61 added by 2014, 208, below.]”
The earliest year in this note is 2014. That's the earliest year the note prints. It doesn't establish when this wording was enacted, took effect or first appeared.
Our reading
The statute names an individual animal: Ms. G of the Massachusetts Audubon Society is the official groundhog, with a job of helping teach elementary school children about meteorology. Two 2014 laws each added a Section 61 to the same chapter, so the official page shows two sections with that number, the other naming volleyball the official recreational and team sport.
Written by Silly Rules from the quoted text above. It's a plain reading, not legal advice. We haven't researched how courts read this section or how often anyone enforces it.
